Letter to the editor:
Dear Sirs:
I have just read for the first time The Amarillo Independent, and I could not be more enthusiastic in my praise of the content. Amarillo needs another newspaper to compete with the Globe-News. I like the calendar and enjoyed all of the articles.
I particularly applaud the well researched and reported article on “Circulating the News.” I will certainly deal directly with my carrier in paying my bill from now on, and will call the office and tell my carrier when and if I discontinue my paper. I will also caution the office not to bill my carrier for the discontinued papers.
My son was a paper boy with a route in the Ridgecrest area when he was a young man and he faced the same problem with the circulation department. They continued to bill him for discontinued papers and he had to eat his loss in spite of repeated messages to the office. This was in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.
I will be looking forward to future editions and wish you all success, with booming readership.
