 The Republican primaries have been a tough sled for God, the Father of the party. (Well, Republicans claim He is.)

Donald_KaulFirst, Michele Bachmann came to Him and asked whether she should run for president. "You go, girl," He said, or words to that effect. I take her word on that. (Hey, would she lie?)

Then she started campaigning. After Republicans got a good look at her, God said, "Nevermind."

Then there was Herman Cain. Remember him? He too said he'd gone to God for career advice and God had told him to run for president. It went pretty good until Cain's nocturnal habits became public, at which point God said, "Forget what I said."

The city of Amarillo is considering a ban on all use of cell phones while driving.

TrinaAn objective look at current research shows that this would not be a good move. In the studies I read it is estimated that as many as 85 percent of drivers who own cell phones use them while driving. There are no data to tell us how much of driving time is spent on the phone and that is necessary to make a real determination of the danger.

There is research that claims to prove that cell phone use impairs driving as much as driving drunk (Strayer, Drews and Crouch 2003). That conclusion is demonstrably false. One in three fatalities is caused by drunk drivers. Cell phone use is only found as a contributing factor in less than three in 100 fatalities.
