For several days, I have been mulling over a news release from the Texas affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers — yes, the horrible organization known as a union.

Senate Bill 1458, introduced by Sen. Robert Duncan (R-Lubbock), and its companion House Bill 1884, introduced by Rep. Bill Callegari (R-Katy), would raise the minimum age for retirement with full benefits to 62, while also reducing health-care benefits to retirees, according to the release.

I was sitting in my rented house in Española, N.M. watching in horror Islamist as extremists launched their four-front

attack on American soil, turning our own technology of convenience into the technology of mass destruction. Then the editor of the Los Alamos paper called. The message: the United States was under attack and no one knew who was behind it. Los Alamos was shut down and she instructed me to stay home until the situation became clearer.

Like every other American, I was outraged at those behind those attacks and almost immediately thought, “We needed to bomb Afghanistan back into the Stone Age. Oh, wait, they are already in the stone age.”
