WCRA helps ranch-hand families

The 17^th Working Ranch Cowboys Association World Championship Rodeo drew thousands of spectators to the Amarillo Civic Center for four performances Nov. 8-11. Twenty teams representing ranches from as far away as Florida and Wyoming competed in events similar to what might be necessary on a working cattle ranch.
The WRCA also announced that the event will remain in Amarillo through 2015. Approximately 40,000 people attend one or more of the rodeos and the trade show, and the overall event has an estimated $2 million impact on the area's economy.

The WRCA promotes the Western heritage and values through sanctioned ranch rodeos. Its philanthropic arm, the Working Ranch Cowboys Foundation, annually awards thousands of dollars in college scholarships and through its crisis-assistance fund.

This is a time lapse of detaching the Enterprise shuttle from its B747 carrier in preparation for being placed on a barge this summer. It will be brought to the USS Intrepid, a museum in New York.

When documentary maker Ken Burns presented his films on the Civil War and the Lewis & Clark expedition, he relied on historical records to bring those stories to life. For his upcoming four-hour film, “The Dust Bowl,” he brings to viewers the experiences of those who lived through the Dirty Thirties, and its defining moment, the dust storm of April 14, 1935, known as Black Sunday, that swept through the High Plains.

The film will air in two parts on November 18-19. (See PBS-provided excerpts from Episode 1 here and Episode 2 here.)

On Sunday, he and his writer and co-producer Dayton Duncan were in Amarillo at KACV-TV for a screening of clips for the survivors of that ecological disaster.
