By Greg Rohloff The Amarillo Independent
Job growth in the Amarillo area is likely to continue, thanks to steady demand for housing and a continued strong showing in the eastern Panhandle where oil production is besting natural gas as the prime energy target.
Patrick Ware noted that the oil boom in the Eastern Panhandle, which was a strength for the past year, helped drive the addition of 4,000 new jobs in 2012. He also pointed to the steady growth at Bell Helicopter Textron for bolstering jobs in the region. |

That projection was given on Tuesday at Amarillo National Bank's annual economic forecast. Patrick Ware and William Ware, both senior vice presidents of the bank, recapped 2012, which closed with many of the strengths expected to be seen this year.
Pulse returned to the level of a year ago when rising commodity prices against the backdrop of the worst drought in nearly 60 years and drilling for oil paced the economy.
