Economic Pulse: Drought's effect shows in the numbers

The drop in the October Amarillo Economic Pulse was expected as part of the lingering effects of the drought, said Patrick Ware, a vice president of Amarillo AbsolutelyeverwhereAbsolutelyeverwhereNational Bank, who compiles the economic index.

The Pulse (https://www.anb.com/AboutUs/EconomicAnalysisPulse.asp) dropped to 210.73 in October, down from the preceding month's 226.43 but still above the year-ago level of 194.99.

 Local artist and entrepreneur Jacob Breeden celebrated the opening of his Process Art House Friday with at least 300 of his closest friends.

The ebb and flow of supporters coming through his space at Seventh and Van Buren got to see “Cirque Echo” and selected sculptures of Nacogdoches-based Tamara Robertson, whose three free-standing pieces and 13 wall hangings were the focus of the grand opening.Tamara Robertson discusses her art with Karen and J.T. The Amarillo Economic Pulse continues to rise, thanks to gains in retail sales and the slow-and-steady job growth.

AbsolutelyeverwhereAbsolutelyeverwhereThe index, compiled by Amarillo National Bank, rose to 226.43 for September, up from 197.21 for a year ago. The Pulse began in January 1988 with that month serving as a base of 100 for area economic conditions.

Rising employment and retail sales helped balance the effects of the drought in the August Amarillo Economic Pulse.

AbsolutelyeverwhereAbsolutelyeverwhereThe index rose to 226 for August, up from 224.44 the previous month and from 187.3 a year ago. The survey compiled by Amarillo National Bank, uses January 1988 as the base of 100.
