Right on, Mr. Publisher! I wish the media in it entirety were virile enough, and free enough from its own profit motives, to address the misalignment between health care markets and the competitive market template. Doctors, clinics, labs and hospitals with "business plans" are not the same kind of service providers as restaurants, jeans manufacturers, or even food producers. When I need a mole diagnosed, maybe even removed, I want a specialist whose expertise is certifiable and whose overhead is minimal. This is not the same as competition, and capitalistic incentives are powerless to drive down costs. Alan Abraham

I think you're right that were the law overturned, passing another one would be impossible in today's poisonous partisan climate. To be clear, though, I said I had mixed feelings because I really felt that Obama conceded too much to the special interests. As a nation, I think we should do better.

You're right that the ACA was watered down by corporate interests and the unwillingness of the Republicans to cooperate in the public interest, but wrong in wishing it had been trashed so that a more comprehensive bill could be created. There is no doubt that the same program could not be passed in the current climate and legislature, let alone a better one. I'm glad we have the chance to see the ACA proceed, because I don't think there will be more meaningful progress until the public sees that the ACA actually delivers what it promises: better care at less cost, at least for those included in the programs created. Meanwhile, Mac Thornberry, Rick Perry and Ernie Houdashell are doing their very best to make Texas every other state's Mississippi (from the movie "Annapolis").
